Fountain of Life Pentecostal Holiness Church

Bell Choir - directed by Elaine Ledford

This ministry is provided by the children within the church, presently whose ages range from three to sixteen. We are blessed with a large group of children who faithfully participate in the bell choir. We perform for the church body once a month as well as for special occasions and holidays.

Occasionally during the year, the children travel to play the bells for some of the nursing homes in Wilkes County. The residents enjoy this immensely. Much of the fun is in giving the residents the opportunity to play together with us on a song or two.

During one of the trips each year, the children are also taken out to lunch where fun and fellowship are enjoyed by all. As you can well imagine, one person could not handle all the children alone. Several volunteers graciously travel with us to help keep track of the children and the bells.

Bible Quest - directed by Karen Ester

This children's ministry is an in-depth study of God's Word. During the course of a normal school year, the children are given instruction weekly in pre-selected various scriptures, following a main theme with subsections of categories. The scriptures are reviewed weekly during church class time. Independent daily review is encouraged at home.

Bible Quest teaches not only scripture memorization. It teaches an appreciation and respect for God's Word, good study habits, time management, personal discipline, analysis of scriptures, and interpretive skills. It provides lasting friendships, fellowship, and opportunities to set personal goals.

There are three age levels of competition in Bible Quest. The primary group is ages 6-8. The junior group is ages 9-12. The teen group is ages 13-19.

The church travels to competition four or five times per year. At competition, the children are matched against another church's team within the same age group. Questions relating to individual verses are called out and teams from each church respond with the correct scripture to earn points. Positive reinforcement rewards are given to all children who participate, simply for studying God's Word.

Fountain of Life has been involved with Bible Quest for three years. Our coaches and teams enjoy learning God's Word!

Fifth Sunday Breakfast - directed by David Jones

This outreach ministry occurs anytime a month has five Sundays. A group of 10-12 team members gather in the fellowship hall at church on the fifth Sunday morning at 7AM. We prepare a full homemade breakfast which consists of scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon or ham, and biscuits with gravy.

Then we have the special privilege of taking these meals to people in the community. Firemen, EMS workers, residents of Wilkes Towers, shut-ins and others are treated to a hot, delicious breakfast. We are able to minister to physical and spiritual needs as we often talk and pray with the recipients of these meals. Testimonies are shared. Prayer needs are exchanged. Friendships are forged.

It has been our privilege to serve nearly 2000 meals in the four years this ministry has existed. Our team's goal has always been to bless others for God's glory, but we seemingly always end up with the greater blessing by just serving breakfast, serving others, and serving God.

GAL defined as Group Accountability for Ladies - directed by Laura Abernathy

This is a ministry that God has designed for women to be accountable to other women with regards to Biblical principles and living a righteous and holy life. The purpose of this group is two-fold: (1) to hold each woman in the group accountable for her actions, speech, sins that she has committed, and (2) for encouragement in discipline in her Christian life, such as reading the Bible, praying, etc.

Meetings are currently held every Sunday at 4:30 p.m. for 1½ hours. Each member is required to be punctual, honest, trustworthy, and most importantly, confidential. The group is encouraged to define long and short term goals, then to implement action plans to attain these goals.

The GAL ministry is based upon the following scriptures: "For none of us lives to himself alone, and none of us dies to himself alone" Romans 14:7 NIV. This can be interpreted that we are to have accountability to one another. Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" Proverbs 27:17 NIV. This can be interpreted that we are to help develop and mold the character of one another.

*Due to the nature and intimacy of this group, it is a closed group. However, if there is enough interest and the Holy Spirit is guiding, then a second group could be started.

MEN defined as Men Enjoying Nature - directed by Dwayne Morrison

Every one or two months the group meets early on a Saturday morning to travel to do outdoor activities. Many of these activities have included hikes to special areas in the mountains. Each scheduled event matches the pace to fit the participants. Those usually participating range from adolescents to senior citizens. The primary goal of the group is to get to know each other better while enjoying what God has provided us in nature.

Missions - directed by Dale Craig

Dale was appointed this position after helping to organize supplies and other details for our November 2005 international mission trip to Honduras. With this mission we joined other IPHC (International Pentecostal Holiness Church) missionaries to construct a 20 bed orphanage, operated by "The Home of Refuge".

In the spring of 2006, several members from Fountain of Life, their friends and family members joined forces to help the victims of hurricane Katrina. This trip took them to southern Mississippi where they erected a house, repaired a church and gave hope to those who came face to face with tragedy.

The tentative plans for 2007 include three mission trips. This first is a local effort to help our community or a nearby location, thus allowing those who cannot travel abroad to be able to participate in home missions. A second opportunity may possibly be available involving travel to Central or Latin America. And last but not least, another trip to the Gulf area where the rebuilding of homes and hope are still in great need.

Please be praying for these events and hopefully you can be a part of one or all of these exciting ministries being planned as part of OPERATIONS SERVANTHOOD at Fountain of Life.

WM defined as Women's Ministries - directed by Melanie Coleman

The ladies in WM devote their time and energy to fulfilling God's commands in Titus chapter 2. In recent years, their motto has been "Bloom Where You Are Planted" and "Today's Woman Touching Tomorrow's World". Whenever a need within the church or community is brought to their attention, WM does their very best to fulfill that need, be it a monetary need or someone in need of prayer or assistance in another way.

Recently, WM created gift baskets to take to shut-ins and elderly people in our church and community. They make regular contributions to the Wilkes Pregnancy Care Center and to other charitable ministries. WM also facilitates the meals, fundraisers and other fun events held at the church. They have hosted a Valentine's Banquet in the past as well as Christmas luncheons, covered dish meals and spaghetti suppers.

WM currently meets once a month in the evening, usually the first Monday unless a holiday is approaching. Additional meetings may be needed more often as a project deadline approaches.

All ladies are welcome to participate. The mission of Women's Ministries is to follow God's direction.
